Participants will learn about the law(s), ethics and best practices that regulate or impact the use of social media and email marketing in a real estate business in Washington. This course is eligible for three (3) CEU for real estate licensees. Actual class length: 3.5 hours.

The course is designed to create awareness and understanding of the practical, legal and ethical considerations involved when promoting a real estate business via social media and email marketing. A hands-on “how to” real estate marketing workshop is offered separately.

Topics covered include:

  • A brief comparison of social media platforms, websites and email marketing;
  • Domain selection considerations, protecting ownership, social media branding, hosting providers, typical costs
  • Search engine optimization (SEO) – how “relevant content” impacts search results; effective use of keywords, meta tags, font sizes and word count
  • Website considerations – platforms, themes, business email address, mobile-friendly site, NWMLS Form 110 – adding IDX to website
  • Advertising and the internet -WAC 308-124B-210; NAR Ethics; NWMLS Rule 192; image copyright considerations; agency policies
  • Email marketing to create and nurture client relationships; FTC Compliance (CAN-SPAM Act)
  • Why a “blog” is necessary; creating a blog; populating content (brief overview)
  • Setting social media objectives; selecting the best platforms; scheduling content distribution; measuring results (with sample social media plan)

This course introduces participants to the most effective ways to communicate with buyers, sellers, lenders, title/escrow representatives, co-workers and others through self-assessment, interpretation and application of DISC behavioral style research. Students will learn strategies to “adapt” their interactions with different styles to achieve complementary dialogue. This course is eligible for four (4) clock hours of credit for real estate licensees. Actual class length: 4.5 hours.

  • Understanding perceptions of one’s “Blind Spots” through learning about Johari Window and Behavior Reaction Model
  • Behaviors vs. Personality; why understanding DISC styles is important when communicating with buyers/sellers/others
  • “In the moment” situational factors may require me to leave my comfort zone to achieve preferable outcomes
  • Understand the “D” (Dominant) behavior style’s needs and how to “Adapt”, if necessary to achieve positive outcomes
  • Understand the “I” (Influence) behavior style’s needs and how to “Adapt”, if necessary to achieve positive outcomes
  • Understand the “S” (Steady) behavior style’s needs and how to “Adapt”, if necessary to achieve positive outcomes
  • Understand the “C” (Conscientious) behavior style’s needs; how to “Adapt”, if necessary to achieve positive outcomes
